What to Expect

When you reach Stingray City, Captain David will explain how to interact with the rays and put you at ease. The rays love to be petted and you will even get the chance to feed them their favourite dish: squid. After the rays get a whiff of the squid and swim towards you, it can feel intimidating, but as they vacuum it off your hand (remember to keep your thumbs tucked in) you’ll fall in love with this amazing experience and will not want to leave the water!

Two stop tour Stingray Sandbar & Coral Gardens Snorkeling Tour starts from the Yacht Club Marina, West Bay on 2.5 to 3 hours journey which includes a twenty-five-minute boat ride to Stingray City Sandbar. Captain David offers complimentary bottled water, locally prepared fever grass swanky, juice, snorkeling gear, and squid to feed the stingrays. On your private boat for 25 minutes, you will stop at Stingray City Sandbar where you will find southern stingrays in abundance.  Here your captain will explain the history of the rays.  You will then get an opportunity to the pet, feed and even get a massage from one of the stingrays.  You may even be tempted to give your favourite stingray a kiss – if you do, you will be rewarded with seven years of good luck!

After this lovely experience, you will reboard your boat trip to the next stop, Coral Gardens, or the beautiful Barrier Reef, which is just a just a short 10-minute boat ride where you will be provided with snorkel gear and explore the underwater world of the reef.  There is a very high density of coral heads, which allows you to see large schools of fish such as grunts, yellowtails, and sergeant majores along with sometimes wild sea turtles and lobsters. On your way Captain David will dive and a collect a conch (of course in season) and will prepare his traditional marinated conch.  Captain David is well known for his marinated conch.  A light appetizer is prepared whilst you are in the water swimming with the beautiful fish and enjoying the ocean.

A Brief History on Stingray City Sandbar

There are in fact two separate sites: Stingray City lies in 12 feet of water, so is ideal for snorkelers and divers; indeed, it is often billed as the best 12-foot dive in the world. Stingray City Sandbar is where most visitors are taken. Here the water is just 2-4 feet deep, so even non-swimmers can safely stand in the shallow water, surrounded by stingrays. The sandbar is suitable for all ages and offers the best photo opportunities. INFOMRATION PROVIDED BY EXPLORECAYMAN.COM

For an up-close-and-personal encounter where you can walk in waist-deep water with the southern stingrays, you may want to choose The Sandbar. The rays are completely safe, nearly four feet in diameter, and will brush against you with their soft underbellies looking for squid, their favourite food, which you can feed them by hand. Do not lift them from the water, step on them, or torment them. – INFORMATION PROVIDED BY CAYMANRESIDENT.COM

A Brief History on Coral Gardens

Coral Gardens is a popular snorkel spot located in North Sound in Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is the main island in the Cayman Islands. North Sound is a small area of sea that is protected by a barrier reef in Grand Cayman. North Sound is only about 5 miles in diameter.
