It is a wide sandbar surrounded by barrier reefs that are home to a variety of fish and, most notably, stingrays. The fact that the southern stingrays that inhabit the area are exceedingly friendly makes Stingray City the most popular activity on the island. These massive sea creatures are so accustomed to human interaction that they allow people to feed, play with, pet, and photograph them. It is a Caribbean adventure unlike any other! The Sandbar is about 3 feet deep during low tide and about 4.5 feet deep during high tide.

A Brief History on Stingray City Sandbar
There are in fact two separate sites: Stingray City lies in 12 feet of water, so is ideal for snorkelers and divers; indeed, it is often billed as the best 12-foot dive in the world. Stingray City Sandbar is where most visitors are taken. Here the water is just 2-4 feet deep, so even non-swimmers can safely stand in the shallow water, surrounded by stingrays. The Sandbar. What to Expect
When you reach Stingray City, Captain David will explain how to interact with the rays and put you at ease. The rays love to be petted and you will even get the chance to feed them their favourite dish: squid. After the rays get a whiff of the squid and swim towards you, it can feel intimidating, but as they vacuum it off your hand (remember to keep your thumbs tucked in) you’ll fall in love with this amazing experience and will not want to leave the water!

The tour will depart from Cayman Islands Yacht Club, based in West Bay, round about after the Kimpton Hotel. Dock B34 and Captain David will be there to meet and greet you.
